How is garbage recycled in Ukraine? Let’s start with sorting.

Ecology in Ukraine is a very complex but promising bridgehead for innovation and technology.

Excavators rake up mountains of garbage and simply trample into the ground what garbage trucks have taken out from citizens. Large flocks of birds are circling over the dump. The smelly gases that are released spread for kilometers, reaching villages and towns.

Humanity produces over 2 billion tons of garbage annually. Which is an average of 200 kilograms per person. In countries of active consumption, this figure can reach 2 tons per person per year. Most of the waste rots in landfills, polluting oceans and destroying ecosystems.

We’re drowning! How about others?

Waste situation in Ukraine:

  • Dumped to landfills – 95%.
  • Burn – 2%.
  • Recycle – 3.2%.
  • Legal polygons – 5 000.
  • Every year there are 27 000 landfills spontaneously (in all regions).

More than 60% is recycled in the EU countries, in Sweden – more than 90% (recycled in Sweden, with the help of secondary raw materials they heat houses, provide them with electricity).

According to the estimates of eco-activists, every year every member of the middle class creates a truck of waste in the process of their life. It is garbage that is the main threat to our civilization, it just drowns in it.

In terms of hazardous waste generation, our country is the leader among 105 countries that maintain such statistics. Meanwhile, in many European countries, landfills are prohibited, but waste processing plants are common there, which burn or recycle waste into a new resource. The most progressive of them, in addition to their main purpose, serve as ski slopes, fitness rooms, thermal power plants.

Ukraine is literally drowning in its own garbage, while Europe has learned to make money on it. An example of this approach is Sweden, which recycles 99% of waste, produces (for comparison, only 3.2% of waste is recycled in Ukraine). With the help of secondary raw materials, houses are heated there, and they are supplied with electricity. Sweden is so successful at recycling its own waste, it lacks it. Therefore, she began to import it from abroad, imports garbage from Norway, Great Britain, Germany and other countries.
At the same time, the Swedes do not “buy” this rubbish: on the contrary, other countries pay them extra to use their waste.

They also sort in Ukraine – an example of Veselovsky OTG.

Thanks to a European grant and state subventions, Veselovsky OTG was the first in the country to acquire a unique mobile sorting line from Konsort. Its innovativeness in the placement of vehicle equipment in a caravan – not being tied to a specific place. This means that, if necessary, it can be quickly deployed directly at the place of waste accumulation.

Mobile sorting line of solid household waste equipment based on a cargo trailer, on wheels for transportation. Transportation is possible with a tractor or a tractor with a rolling cart. The trailer is equipped with all ergonomic labor standards. The complete set of the trailer is as follows: windows, doors and a ventilation system, lighting, an electrical panel with a control panel, holes for sorting with fasteners for big bags, germicidal lamps. The collection of the useful fraction is carried out in big bags. The line is powered by 380 W (panel board or generator). The capacity of the mobile sorting line is 10 thousand tons of waste per year. Throughput capacity is up to 5 tons per hour. Thanks to her work during the year, about 40 spontaneous dumps were liquidated.

Association KONSORT is a manufacturer of solid waste sorting lines with experience.

Waste sorting lines have been introduced:

  1. Dunaevtsy (Khmelnitsky region) SDW sorting line 30,000 tons / year
  2. Zaporozhye Line SDW sorting line 30,000 t / year
  3. Veseloe (Zaporozhye region) Mobile sorting line for solid waste
  4. Vyshgorod (Kiev region) Solid waste sorting line 50,000 t / year
  5. Dnipro (at the landfill) SDW sorting line 50,000 t / year
  6. Zasulye (Poltava region) MSW sorting line 10,000 t / year
  7. Gadyach (Poltava region) MSW sorting line 10000 t / year.
  8. Kiev Sorting line for solid waste 50,000 t / year
  9. Bobrinets (Kirovograd region) MSW sorting line 20,000 t / year
  10. Chernechinskaya OTG (Sumy region) Mobile sorting line for solid waste
